The cell phone policy at the school has been updated for the year, removing the previous year's allowing to be taken to class and placed in sleeves and to be checked between classes. We have also added a ZERO SOCIAL MEDIA usage as part of it. Students in grades 5-8, if they have a cellular device or other personal electronic device, must keep it in their lockers throughout the day, with the exception of lunchtime. During lunchtime, social media, or the taking of pictures and video are not allowed and would be considered a violation. Any questions, please feel free to reach out to the administration. Tomorrow is the last day of the learning curve. We will be placing an order for locks for those students who do not have them.

We want to welcome back our Eagle Family to a new school year at Terra Alta East Preston. Tomorrow we'll be only having our 5th and 8th grade students in the building as part of the staggered start. New cell phone policy for grades 5-8 (no cell phones for 4th and below in the building) - Phones will be locked in lockers as soon as the day begins and students will permitted to use at lunch only. New policy will be updated and shared. You will need a lock this week, preferably a combination, and that combination shared with HR teachers. If you have a key lock, we will need the second key. For those of you who did not attend Open House, your student can find out their teacher on the first day, or you can call the school during regular hours. Students are expected to be in the building no later than 7:15, with the tardy bell ringing at 7:20. Grab and Go breakfast will be served as usual. Looking forward to seeing everyone back.

Preston County Schools Student Support Services encourages families to be safe online. Know what apps your students are using and be cautious. SNAPCHAT: Does your child use Snapchat? It's a popular app with teenagers used for creating multimedia messages referred to as "snaps" that consist of a photo or a short video, and can be edited to include filters and effects, text captions, and drawings. While the premise behind the app seems innocent, it can lead to problems if used inappropriately. With school about to start, be sure you are up to speed on all that snapshot offers (good and bad). Snapchat offers extra protections for 13-to-17-year-olds, including requiring teens to be mutually connected or in their respective phone contacts before they can start communicating. Please follow the links below to learn more about tools parents can access to learn more about Snapchat safety: ➡️Snap has a set of in-app parental tools called Family Center. The goal of these tools is to help parents get insight into how their teens are using Snapchat, including who they are communicating with and what public content they are viewing. https://values.snap.com/safety/family-center ➡️Easily report concerning accounts to Snap’s 24/7 Trust and Safety team. You can learn more here: https://values.snap.com/safety/safety-reporting ➡️Here is a list of important actions to help protect your teens on Snapchat. ❗️FAMILY AND FRIENDS ONLY: Tell your teen to only invite and accept Friends on Snapchat if they are friends in real life or family members. Encourage them to check their Friends List regularly to make sure they still want to be in touch with each friend. ❗️LOCATION AND PRIVACY SETTINGS: Talk to your teen about their location and privacy settings. At Snapchat, privacy settings are turned on by default, so people can only see the things you want to share, for as long as you want to share them. ❗️IN-APP REPORTING: Make sure your teen knows how to use our in-app reporting tools and that we don’t tell Snapchatters who reported them. These reports go directly to our 24/7 Trust and Safety team to investigate and take appropriate action. We also offer reporting tools on our website for those who don’t use Snapchat – which any parent can easily use. ❗️THINK BEFORE YOU SEND: Remind your teen that, as with sharing anything online, it’s important to be really careful about sending anyone – even a partner or close friend – personal or sensitive images and information. Snaps and Chats may delete by default, but there are ways to capture images from a phone or other device without a person’s consent. This is true despite Snapchat sending a notification in some instances when a screenshot is taken. ❗️JOIN FAMILY CENTER: Make sure you and your teen are signed up for Snapchat’s Family Center.

Just a reminder that tomorrow, Thursday, August 17th from 4-6:45 is Welcome Back Night. Be sure to come out and meet your kiddos' teachers, and come hungry, as PTO will be selling hotdogs, so don't make dinner plans. Students will still get a chance to receive Kona Ice tickets, however, due to a change in funding events such as this through the state and county, funding wasn't available yet to cover Kona tomorrow evening. We will have Kona back another day, so they can be rewarded for your and their participation. Sorry for the change, but due to recent events in our state, procedures have changed and slowed involving such activities. We can't wait to see you all back at school.

Originally scheduled for the gym, this will now be held in the cafeteria. There will be a Q&A following the presentation. Hope to you see you at the school, as the school and town continue to build and strengthen its community partnership and place our children first.
