Mrs. McKeever’s Science 8 classes are covering various life sciences. Today, they used either a clothespin, tweezers, a binder clip, or a fork to represent different beak types. Using those beaks, they had to eat as much “food” as they could within a minute. The objective of this lab is to show that animals, who are better adapted to their environment and available food, will survive and pass on their traits to the next generation. #SchoolOfChampions #GoodThingsHappenHere

In 4th grade, we teach how to put up and take down the American flag. Mrs. Vrabel’s 4th grade class was so excited to be the first class to include our new Bruceton School flag.

If your child is missing a hoodie, jacket, etc. Have them check the lost and found table in the breezeway. With the warmer weather, we're starting to find more forgotten items on the playground.

We want to share important information about a new program that can help income-eligible families feed their children during summer months. The WV Department of Human Services and the WV Department of Education are launching a brand-new program called WV Summer EBT (SEBT). Please listen carefully for important information about this new program. This is NOT the same as PEBT, which helped during Covid-19. Our county board of education fully participates in the Community Eligibility Provision for free school meals and all students automatically received PEBT. The Summer EBT program, however, is based on new federal guidelines. Not ALL students will be eligible for SEBT, only income-eligible households. Families that do not meet the income criteria will NOT be approved for Summer EBT. If your family receives benefits like SNAP or WV Works/TANF, your enrolled child will automatically receive SEBT. If you do not receive public benefits and you believe your household is income-eligible, you will need to complete an income application. To complete an application online, please visit www.schoolcafe.com. Applying online is the most efficient way to apply. Please only submit one application per child. If you need a paper application, you should contact your local DoHS field office for more information. Your child's school or county board of education office will NOT have applications nor accept completed applications. All eligible children will receive their one-time benefit of $120 on a brand new Summer EBT card. Benefits will NOT be loaded onto previous PEBT cards or existing Mountain State EBT cards. Summer EBT cards will be mailed to the address on file with your child's school or their public benefit case. If you have other children in your household between the ages of 6 and 17 who are not enrolled in our school system, they will only receive SEBT if your household gets SNAP or another qualifying benefit. Federal law prohibits an income application from being filed for children who do not attend a school that participates in the National School Lunch Program. It's School Bus Driver Appreciation Day! Our kids and staff love our bus drivers. They are usually the first and last people our kids see on their way to and from school. Thanks to our Academic Boosters for providing treats.

This Challenge will end on Friday. A new style of challenge will start this Saturday. Look for more information coming soon. Get those last minutes in. The standings have been changing and there is still time for other schools to catch up and take over the Beanstack Reading Champion Cup.

The WV Army National Guard is hosting a summer basketball program for students ages 13 - 18. Participation is free and requires only a commitment to attend, a good attitude, and a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Forms are due back by 5/15/24 to WVARNG (see flier) or to your school.

It's School Bus Driver Appreciation Day! We want to thank our bus drivers for all they do for our kids!

Important Reminder! On Wednesday, April 24, 2024, there will be no school for Preston County School students due to staff development.

Students in grades 3-8 will take the West Virginia General Summative Assessment May 6th through May 10th. It is very important that students are here in school these days for the exams. As in the past, students must have completed all their GSA component exams before being permitted to attend any field trips.

We're still accepting Pre-K registrations for the 2024-2025 school year. Just stop by the main office to pick up a registration packet. If you need more information, give us a call at (304) 379-2593.

First grade ended their week of learning all about farms and farm animals by testing out their butter making skills! Students made a list of ingredients, sequenced the steps of making butter, and each got a chance to give the butter jar a few shakes! Their hard work was rewarded with some delicious butter bread. They are so ready for their field trip to participate in Kiddie Day at WVU Animal Science Farm! #SchoolOfChampions #GoodThingsHappenHere

Ms. Moss' students finished up their solar system unit by researching how to create a colony on Mars. Once they were finished, they got to build their colonies using recycled materials. #SchoolOfChampions #GoodThingsHappenHere
