Preston County Schools will be dismissing two hours early today due to potential flooding concerns in multiple areas of the county. All after school activities are cancelled including grasshopper basketball. Staff is to remain in the buildings until confirmation that students have been delivered home safely.

On Friday, March 3rd, Preston High School CTE students are scheduled to attend multiple events. Select nursing students will be attending the HOSA Conference in Huntington on Friday with a county bus departing from the loop in front of the vocational school at 6 AM. Students should be onsite by 5:45 AM to catch the bus. These students will be picked up in Barboursville on Sunday at 10 AM and will likely return home between 2:30 and 3:00 PM. In addition, other select CTE students will be traveling to Charleston for CTE day on Friday. Students attending this trip will need to be at the loop in front of the vocational school at 4:45 AM with the bus departing promptly at 5 AM. These students will be returning at approximately 4 PM on Friday afternoon and activity shuttle buses for these students and other student-athletes will be departing PHS at 4:15 PM.
This message is for all staff, students, and parents. Per WV State Code l 8-9E-3, all schools in West Virginia built after 1998 must be tested for radon gas upon opening and then every five years thereafter. All Preston County Schools will be undergoing this routine testing on the following dates: March 2nd and March 12th, 2023. The testing will be conducted using small devices that are harmless to the public and it will last two to four days. The devices will be placed in pre-selected rooms on the ground level and should not be tampered with while in place. Although the test kits are completely safe and post no adverse health effects to the public, they should not be tampered with during testing to ensure accurate test results. Please rest assured that this testing is only routine to check for radon gas. Tryouts for the Preston High School baseball team will begin on Monday, February 27th after school. All interested student athletes are encouraged to attend tryouts.
