Happy Holidays.

Local School Improvement Council (LSIC)
Name of School: South Preston Name of Chair: Jordan Young
Date of Meeting: November 20, 2024 Name of Principal: James Hoit
Place of Meeting: Elementary Lab Start/End Times of Meeting: 4:00-5:00
Sign-In Sheet
4:00—Meeting started. There was a delay due to technical issues.
4:15—Waived reading of minutes.
4:28—Principals’ Report was presented. We discussed the nineteen formal discipline incidents occurring from August to today. We discussed the positive behavior intervention support program and the improvement in behaviors keeping discipline to a minimum.
Attendance is at 93%, meaning we need to move to 95% as per our goal. Chronic absences have gone down which is also part of our attendance goal. Incentives have improved attendance and we will continue to implement activities and strategies that will improve attendance.
The closures of Fellowsville and Rowlesburg schools were the next topics on our agenda. Students from Fellowsville are to come to our school for the 24-25 school year. The approval from both county and state occurred in December. There was a lot of discussion on both sides of the closures, but we plan to welcome any new students just like we always do.
We also touched upon the volunteer and chaperone policy. For this school year, chaperones are to be approved by the CBOE, as well as volunteers. This policy is File 10-13 in the Preston County BOE School Policy. Next year, background checks will be required for all volunteers and chaperones. Anyone with a felony will have to present their case to the CBOE before approval is given.
The sign materials are being ordered and installation will occur this spring. We appreciate donations given for this, and other, projects.
Meeting adjourned at 4:51 by Hoit, seconded by Cline

This week, ALL Preston County Students will be bringing home a bag of 8-10 apples, courtesy of Kilmer's Farm Market, WV Harvest and the WV Dept. of Ag. as part of their 2024 Apple-achia Giveaway. This morning, 14 pallets loaded with WV Grown Apples were delivered to Central Preston to be distributed out to all schools this week. PCS appreciates the generous donation this holiday season from Kilmer's and WV Harvest, and we hope that an apple a day over the holidays keeps the doctor away for an enjoyable holiday break for all. Special thanks to all of our staff who have volunteered their time and efforts to get these apples distributed to our schools and students.
