
Due to the vast number of recent weather delays and cancellations, report cards will now be distributed on January 31st, as opposed to the original January 24th date. This extra week will allow for teachers to collect student work and enter term 2 grades, so that way the reports are accurate and not missing grades.

Preston County Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay for tomorrow, Wednesday, January 15th. Maintenance, mechanics, & custodians report on a regular schedule, & all students & other staff will report on a 2-hour delay. Any changes in bus routes will follow this message or in the morning.

Just a reminder that set-up for the county science fair will take place this evening from 5-7 at the Kingwood Volunteer Fire Department Community Building. Judging is tomorrow, and the exhibits will be open to the public, tomorrow the 14th from 5-7 PM, with awards to follow at 7.


Reminder: PK/K Registration -
Just a reminder that Preston County Schools is now accepting applications for 2025-2026 Pre-K and Kindergarten programs.
Pre-K Registration will be held this Friday, January 17, 2025, from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at Aurora, Bruceton, Kingwood Elementary, South Preston, Terra Alta/East Preston, and West Preston Schools.
Kindergarten registration will be held Friday, January 17, 2025, from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at Aurora, Bruceton, Kingwood Elementary, South Preston, Terra Alta/East Preston, and West Preston Schools.
Applications can be found on the Preston County Schools website (https://5il.co/13eqv) and dropped off at one of the schools listed above. If you need a paper copy, it is available at the schools to pick up, complete and return to the school. The following information will need to be provided:
· completed preschool application
· copy of the child’s birth certificate from the Office of Vital Statistics
· immunization records
· completed well-child visit form
· dental check form
To register for PreK you need to be 4 years old by July 1. (No Exceptions) To register for kindergarten you need to be 5 years old by July 1. If you are registering a Kindergarten student and they are already enrolled in a Preston County PreK then you DO NOT have to register them for kindergarten. The ONLY EXCEPTION is if you are transferring schools.


Another full week of MS Basketball, or hopefully, the first full week. Fingers crossed for these kiddos and coaches that we have good weather this week. Come out and support PCS student athletes.

Maintenance, mechanics, & custodians report on a regular schedule, & all other students & staff will report on a 2-hour delay. The BOE meeting will proceed as scheduled at 1:30 PM and setup for the County Science Fair will take place from 5-7 PM at the Kingwood Volunteer Fire Department.

Based on current road conditions and the call for additional snow accumulation through the day and evening. All extra-curricular activites including schools-based activities and youth league athletics have been cancelled for today.

There will be informational meetings for those first grade students interested in participating in the Childrens Court for the 2025 Buckwheat Festival. The meetings will take place at the KVFD Community Building on February 3 and 4th at 6:00PM. You must attend one of these meetings to be considered. Staff Wellness Challenge for January. Complete and certify by Monday, February 3rd for a chance to win your exclusive hat. All winners will be placed in the grand prize drawing in March. December's winners will be announced on Monday. Thanks to all those who participated, continue to participate, and it's never to late to start and tackle that New Year's Resolution.


The weather delayed us a bit, but that's okay. Here's your January Student Wellness Challenge. Winners from December will be announced on Monday, and 5 lucky students who completed the challenge will be receiving their choice of sled or snow scooter, and a water bottle. January's winners, to be selected in February, will win the same. January's needs to be submitted by Monday, February 3rd. New staff challenge to follow as well.


Extra-curricular activities will proceed tonight with the PHS girls' basketball home game tonight at 6 PM; the PHS wrestling team participating at Winner's Choice Meet in Fairmont; & the PHS Freshman boys' basketball game at East Fairmont at 5:45 PM. Middle School events tonight include West Preston hosting Bruceton for multiple games and South Preston hosting Aurora. At this time, events tomorrow will be carried out as scheduled; however, event status will be assessed in the morning.

With tomorrow being a 'Brain Freeze Day,' these are updated totals of inclement weather days used as of tomorrow, Friday, January 10th, 2025, along with information about each and potential make-ups.


The middle school dance scheduled for tomorrow night will be rescheduled for a later date. As of right now, our basketball teams will be playing at home Friday evening and Saturday afternoon. Please check social media for updates.

Preston County Schools will be closed for tomorrow Friday, January 10th and it will be a “Brain Freeze” day. Students do not report; however, maintenance, mechanics, and custodians report on a regular schedule, while all other staff report on a 2-hour delay. Day-to-day substitute personnel should not to report unless they are specifically directed to do so. All schools will be open from 10 to 12 for students who require assistance. Resources on Brain Freeze can be found on the county website and Facebook page. At this time, it is planned to permit extra-curricular activities tomorrow. Specifics on event statuses will be communicated tomorrow.
