Kingwood Elementary would like to thank Kim Liston and Preston Memorial Hospital for participating in our March Family Fun Night! Kim completed a demonstration with Kool-aid that educated students on the function of blood, blood components, and the need for blood. This educational opportunity paired VERY WELL with our math-based activities!
KES is partnering with the American Red Cross and Preston Memorial Hospital for a blood drive on Tuesday, April 9th at the Kingwood Community Building. The drive will run from 12:00 PM – 6:00PM. Register today at redcrossblood.org.
During the solar eclipse on Monday, there will be both indoor and outdoor supervised grade level sessions to commemorate this historic event at KES. Indoor verses outdoor viewing will be dependent upon students' age and abilities to follow directions as well as staff comfort level and access to appropriate materials. Indoor sessions will take place in homerooms and the eclipse will be viewed live on smartboards. Outdoor sessions will be utilizing safety glasses and be supervised by homeroom teachers. April is the Month of the Military Child. Kingwood Elementary is a Purple Star Award recipient. The Purple Star Award is a designation assigned to schools which display a special commitment to supporting military children and their families. There will be 40 pint size prizes given out at the drive for students who have blood donors associated with them as well as an incentive for the homeroom bringing in the most donations during the event! It's time for a new Beanstack Reading Challenge Preston County! Grab a good book and Hop into Reading. Read, log your minutes, finished books and activities to complete this challenge. This challenge is open to all staff and students. Remember the school with the most minutes per student logged will be the champions. Congratulations to Fellowsville for winning the Preston County Snowball Fight Beanstack reading challenge! They got to enjoy a snowball fight in the gym and their PE class gets to keep the snowballs. Fellowsville also gets to keep the Beanstack Champion Trophy until another school wins a challenge.



Brain Freeze Protocols

Kingwood Elementary kicked off the final grading period of the school year with a Math in Motion Family Fun Night on March 27th. Featured sessions included Josh Grant and Assistant, Julie Craig, WVDE Math in Motion, PCS Instructional Coaches, Preston Memorial Hospital, and the Red Cross. When caretakers engage in learning alongside of their children, the value of education becomes crystal clear! Thank you, EVERYONE, for helping our children grow!
Congratulations to Miss Kylie's Gatorade Students of the Month for March! These students are being recognized for demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship, teamwork, and leadership in wellness class!

We hope that everyone has had a wonderful, relaxing Spring Break with their families! Ask your child about the Peep STEM activity that classes partook in priorto our mini vacation! Thanks to our STEAM Team, students had the opportunity to hypothesize, make observations, and reflect about the effect(s) different types of water would have on these springtime marshmallow favorites! What fun will we come up with next? Be on time and on target for success TOMORROW and find out!
Preston County Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay for tomorrow Thursday, April 4, 2024. Maintenance, mechanics, and custodians report on a regular schedule. Students and all other staff will report on a 2-hour delay.
