Register for the Book Blast Tonight!

Dear KINGWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Families, Exciting news! We are partnering with Books Are Fun and their Book Blast program to help build our students’ home libraries. For over 30 years, Books are Fun has been a trusted partner in promoting literacy. Today, our students learned about the Book Blast Program and the importance of having their own books at home. Tonight, we are asking you to take 7 minutes to support our Student Home Library initiative. Click Here: https://app.booksarefun.com/KingwoodES26537

Here are the steps:

1. Click the link above. 2. Register your student(s). 3. Send invitations to at least 10 friends or family members to support our students (Don’t worry, all the information you provide is secure and only used for this program.) 4. Need help registering? Watch this short step by step video: https://www.bb.booksarefun.com/how-to-complete

Win a trip to Disney! Our school has been selected for an incredible opportunity! For every supporter who clicks your student’s contribution link during Book Blast, you’ll earn one entry for a chance to win a trip to Disney! For example, if five different people click the link, your family gets five entries into the drawing! *Pro Tip: After sending invitations, follow up with a phone call to make sure they received the message.

Why I love this program: • It’s guaranteed to put new, age-appropriate books into the hands of every student! • 100% of all contributions go toward new books and classroom supplies. • The book list is fantastic! It’s attached, check it out. • It will take you less than 10 minutes and there is NO financial requirement from you. More books in your homes equals more pages being read! That’s the goal. We’re hoping for 100% participation.

Students in After School Explorers have had a busy week! Not only have they been devoting extra time to practicing reading and math skills; they also took time to participate in a trash pick-up on and around our campus as part of the “Make It Shine West Virginia” initiative. Thank you for your service

Students at Kingwood Elementary School are taking their physical well-being seriously and having fun while they learn about healthy habits, too! Jordan Wilfong, third grader at KES, was a recent monthly winner in Preston County Schools Wellness Challenge, and he claimed a snow scooter as his prize! Meanwhile, March Gatorade Students of the Month were recognized by Miss Kylie last week. These students demonstrated outstanding leadership, teamwork, and performance during wellness class!

informational text on upcoming days off
May Menus: You will notice multiple cook's choice days, which will also be each day in June, so no menus will go out for June as all are cook's choice. Cook's choice are used to either be efficient with inventory to limit on waste, or to try new items, or bring back old favorites. You will also notice that there are two "pre-packaged" days. These shelf stable meals will be tested by students, with a survey for students to follow. In the future, these will be utilized for field trips, brain freeze days and emergencies when there may not be staffing. These meals DO meet USDA school lunch requirements. If utilized more in the coming years, on those days, schools will still also provide salad bars, or other supplemental items. As always, if any questions or concerns as it relates to school meals, please direct those to Justin Hough, Director of Child Nutrition and Wellness, at jhough@k12.wv.us.

A parent survey went home with the most recent report cards. If you didn't receive it, the link is listed below, and we would ask that all parents take the time to fill this out.
