Preston County Schools would like to thank and recognize all of our school service employees in honor of WV School Service Personnel Day (9/22/23)!!!
Our service employees are vital to the operation of our schools and as I stated in my opening day speech, I wish to thank our bus drivers who provide a smiling face and needed transportation for our students to and from school, our mechanics who work to ensure that our buses are safe for travel, our cooks who prepare nutritious breakfasts and lunches that are sometimes the only meals some of our student see each day, our aides who sometimes ride our buses to ensure safe travels by our students and who provide needed classroom help to our students and our teachers, our secretaries who help to provide for the smooth and efficient operation of our schools, and our custodians and maintenance workers who help to provide a clean environment in our schools and make needed repairs within our buildings and grounds.
Thanks again to all of our service personnel employees!!!!
Just a reminder that Parent Pick-Up will be located at the doors of the KES gym this afternoon and all next week due to the Buckwheat Festival. Also, there will be no Price Street Walkers next week (September 25-28).
CPMS Parents who have children ride the bus to KES Parent Pick-Up: Your children are still welcome to ride the bus to KES in the afternoons as usual. However, please utilize the crosswalks when exiting our parking lot and waiting for your child. Please have your child meet you at the funeral home parking lot or on the sidewalk in front of the building along Price Street where morning drop off occurs. Thank you again for your patience and efforts to keep everyone safe!
The Buckwheat Festival has arrived across the street from KES. We want to keep everyone safe during the festivities. We will need to change our evening dismissal. First, there will be no Price Street Walkers September 25-28th. Second, we will not stage Parent Pick-Up on the Fireman’s Field from September 21-28th. Families, park within walking distance to KES. Report to the exterior doors of the gym. You will give the student's name to a staff member located at the gym doors closest to the Early Childhood Building. Please be prepared to show ID! Then, wait in line for your child. Staff members will bring students to you . We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause.

That's right, THIS Friday, September 22nd, ALL KES students and CPMS 5th graders are invited to a glow dance in the KES gym from 6:00-7:30PM! Admission is $5 and includes a glow stick, drink and snack. Parents are asked to attend with their children. We hope to dance the night away with YOU!

Preston County Schools is pleased to inform you that students (currently in grades 4 - 9 and grade 12) who took the West Virginia General Summative Assessment or the SAT School Day Assessment in the spring of 2023 have received an email in their K12 student email account containing a link to an individual student video score report. Please have your student check his or her student email account for the link. Simply click on the link and enter your student’s date of birth to access the video score report customized specifically for your student and be sure to check out the links to resources that are also provided.
Additionally, students will bring home the West Virginia General Summative Assessment or SAT School Day Assessment paper copy of the report today, Friday, September 8th. This is the same information that is accessible online in the video report and the new parent portal.
In addition, your student will also receive a second email with a link to the new West Virginia Department of Education Assessment Family Portal. Included with the link is a unique parent access code for your student as well as directions for accessing the family portal.
If you have any difficulty accessing the online report or do not receive your paper copy, please contact your student’s school for assistance. The Preston County Schools website also has additional resources available regarding the assessments. You will find this information at prestoncountyschools.com > Menu > Parent/Student > Assessment.

KES Families: Now that we are starting to get into the swing of things, we will be hosting our Attendance Kickoff Challenge for the 23-24 school year THIS WEEK!! Students in grades K-4 who arrive on-time and stay throughout dismissal EACH DAY TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY will be eligible to participate in a popcorn party on Friday, September 8th--It's that easy! Remember, attendance matters! All day. Every day.
That being said, if you are sick, please visit a doctor, stay home until you are fever/symptom-free without meds for 24 hours, and BRING A NOTE upon return.

KES Families: The PTA Coin Wars will run Tuesday through Friday this week! Send in your spare change to help PTA fund student activities throughout the school year! Homeroom classes raising at least $50 by the end of the week will earn freezepops! The homeroom that brings I'm the most $$ will also receive extra recess at a later date!

Just a few friendly reminders for morning drop-off to keep our kiddos safe:
1. Drop off is at 7:15AM. Doors cannot be opened before this time. There will not be adult supervision before 7:15AM.
2. If walking your students to the building(s), please either park at the funeral home or Fireman's Field and do so. Extra cars in our parking lot make it difficult for busses and employees to get to where they need to be in a timely manner.
3. We have several staff members stationed outside of doors and between buildings to safely direct students to where they need to be. Please refrain from entering our building unless you need to see the nurse, secretary, or principal. In those cases, you MUST sign in at the main office before doing so.

Preston County Schools will be hosting a meeting for individuals interested in assisting with the promotion of an excess levy to be possibly run in May of 2024. The meeting is scheduled on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at 6:00 PM at the Preston County BOE offices. All interested citizens may attend. KES would like to extend a special "thank you" to all of the families, teachers, school, and community organizations who came out to kick off the year with a wet, wild, and fun splash! Our welcome back event was a success because of you! We look forward to seeing everyone bright and early tomorrow morning! Remember, drop-off time is between 7:15 and 7:35 AM.
Students in PreK and Kindergarten Group 1 will begin school Monday, August 28. If you need information on your child's group, please contact your school. All Preston County students in grades 1 - 12 will begin their regular, daily schedule on Monday, August 28.
