Just a reminder that summer feeding pick-ups begin this evening at West, Bruceton and Central, with TA, Aurora and South being tomorrow. All pick-ups from 4-6. For West, you'll come in the front of the building to get your milks, breakfast and lunch box. For Central, you'll come in the side door near the loading dock by the cafeteria. For Bruceton, you will loop around the school by the loading dock and pick up your meals there and then loop the remainder of the way. We will send out instructions for tomorrow's school tomorrow. Fathers come in all shapes, sizes, and forms. They range from biological parents and stepdads, to adoptive fathers, uncles, grandfathers, mentors, and devoted role models. It is not just a biological title, but a role defined by care, consistency, sacrifice, and love. From all of us at PCS, Happy Father's Day!!!

Let's keep reading all summer long. It's like a vacation for the mind, but you don't have to pack a bag, and you don't need gas money, or snacks...well, maybe still snacks.

On Friday, June 5th, the Office of Child Nutrition for the WV Department of Education, funded, and invited school cooks and nutrition directors from across the state to attend a "Scratch Cooking" Training in Huntington, WV. The state recognizes that many counties are "bare-bones" when it comes to service personnel staffing, and in a push for less ultra-processed and processed foods, they developed 18 recipes, whether breakfast, lunch, or sides, that are much easier to make with staffing shortages, as well as new, tasty options for our students. Preston County Schools will be adopting a few of these to pilot next year in our menus, and we're hoping for positive feedback from our students and families. The favorites among our attendees and others were Overnight Oats, Breakfast Bowl, Cheesy Potatoes, Macaroni and Cheese, and the homemade Condiments (much less sodium). Justin Hough, Director of Child Nutrition attended, and trained alongside all the cooks, and wants to thank Jackie Blamble (Aurora), Tracy Rosenberger (Bruceton), and Seth Everson (Central), for taking the time to attend this training at the beginning of their summer break. Full bellies equal productive and happy kids.
