At 6:30AM, PCS was notified by the power company that there'd be a power outage to Terra Alta East Preston for 3-4 hours beginning at 8:15. Most buses are already on the road. Students will be brought to the school, fed breakfast, and will be dismissed once buses return from PHS. Younger students without parents at home to receive them, will be brought back to the school until arrangements can be made for them to be picked up. Staff will remain at the school for the duration of the outage. If your student doesn't ride the bus, or hasn't left yet, please keep them at home. If you have any questions, please contact principal Ryan or Jessie at the school at 304-789-2344. Sorry for the inconvenience as this was not planned or notifications weren't made to the county until this morning.

At approx. 8:30 AM (current time), Tuesday, December 10th, 2024, an event, unknown to students, kicked-off at Kingwood Elementary School that should result in the school going into lockdown. This is a planned DRILL in cooperation with school admin, county admin, safety/security director, and the law enforcement, to better prepare our students and staff in the event of an actual emergency. If you receive communication from your student during this time, or hear or see chatter on social media, again THIS IS ONLY A DRILL. We hope that this training and continued training for our students will better prepare them and our staff in the event of an actual emergency.

On Wednesday, December 4th, while being presented with a program from WVU Medicine Healthy Minds, students at Aurora were met with an unexpected, but very welcomed visitor, as Angie Zofchak, Director of Attendance and Student Services, brought Sir Chester to interact and give our students at Aurora some snuggles. Not sure who loved the visit more, but Sir Chester and the Aurora Bears were smiling from ear to floppy ear that day. Preston County schools is enjoying the offerings of its newest staff member and mascot, and thanks to PHS for letting Sir Chester spread his love and care to other students.
