Welcome to Child Nutrition and Wellness for
Preston County Schools
Our department has over 30 employees who work diligently to ensure the children in our schools are fed nutritious meals each day. USDA guidelines for the School Breakfast Program and for the National School Lunch Program are followed and promote healthy food choices for students and staff.

C.E.P - Community Eligibility Provision
Preston County Schools continue to take part in the Community Eligibility Program of USDA offering free meals to all of our students! This program allows each student to receive one free breakfast and one free lunch daily when in school or during out of seat learning.
Billing Information
Any unpaid meal debt on student accounts remains the responsibility of the parent/guardian. Although bills are no longer mailed monthly to student households because we are part of the CEP (Community Eligibility Provision), all accrued past debt for breakfast or lunch meals at school remains on the student's account until paid in full. If a family needs to set up a payment plan with the Child Nutrition Office they can do so by contracting Beth Doerr at 304-329-0580 Ext. 234.
No charging of meals for the 2023-2024 school year will be allowed for students as we participate in the Community Eligibility Provision Program. PCS Staff may continue to charge meals if desired and bills will be mailed monthly.

WV Dept. of Ed. Standards for School Nutrition Policy
Foods sold served or distribute outside of the school cafeteria must meet the nutrient requirements for West Virginia Schools. This includes foods sold in vending machines and school stores, served during classroom parties, and provided by parents for snacks. The WV Board of Education enacted rules for these "other foods" for three reasons:
Snacks can help your child meet their nutrition needs instead of adding unnecessary (an unhealthy) fat, sugar and salt:
Food safety concerns; and
Allergies and/or special diets required by some children. Yogurt, plain fresh fruit or plain fresh vegetables, 100% fruit juice or water can be provided without needing to check calories or other nutrition information. To determine if a pre-packaged food item meets the nutrition criteria, please click the link to the Nutrition Calculator.
WV Feed to Achieve Act - All schools in WV are required to provide students the opportunity for a breakfast meal and for a lunch meal as part of the scheduled school day. Many of our schools are utilizing alternative breakfast strategies to meet this guidance, including 2nd Chance Breakfast, Breakfast After the Bell, and Grab n' Go Breakfast.
